Are you an avid traveler that needs to keep in touch with friends and family? Maybe you are just planning a trip and are going to be in more than one country. There are cell phone rentals that you can use, but they might not be the best option for you. Here are the pros and cons so you can make a better decision.

Pro #1

If you rent a cell phone you can keep in touch without breaking the bank. This is a pretty affordable option, but you will have to give the phone back. Do make sure you get the insurance just in case you lose it or it gets broken or you will be paying a pretty penny to replace it.

Con #1

When you use a cell phone rentals service you are normally restricted to one country and that is it. This is not good if you plan to travel to more than one country on a trip.

Pro #2

You don’t have to worry about the phone once you are done with it. All you have to do is turn it in and you are done. Some other companies will charge you a monthly fee and make you sign a contract.

Con #2

If you travel again you will have to pay to rent a phone again. This is no fun because it gets expensive and can be a bit irritating.

Another option is to use something other than cell phone rentals. You can actually buy a phone that works in over 140 countries, with no monthly fees. This phone will only charge you for the minutes you use and it is quite affordable.

I remember the days when I was a kid when my mom would take her three boys to the local travel office before we went out on one of our familys summer vacations. She would end up spending about an hour there while we languished in uncomfortable chairs talking to an attendant and getting us one of those magical Trip Tics, a hand-held flip map that highlighted our route and told us where to go. This was years before automotive GPS devices hit the consumer market, but that is exactly what these devices would become modeled after.

Today, you dont need to spend any time at an office to learn about all the different places you should stay on a road trip. All you need to do is take your trusty Garmin, TomTom, of Magellan with you on your trip. These powerful navigation computers are utilize information made available on the Global Positioning system (GPS) and are now much smaller, much more accurate, and much easier to use than old local travel office Trip Tics.

Automotive GPS has literally replaced every single aspect of the Trip Tics functionality, even the voice from the passenger seat directing the driver where to turn. Most modern GPS will come with turn-by-turn driving directions that will lead you directly to your destination. Some models even let you hear your directions in over 30 different languages and in over 50 different voices.

An automotive navigation GPS is also going to help you get a better picture of where you are at on your trip and how long it will take you to reach your destination than a Trip Tic will. Taking information from the satellites spinning around the earth, the GPS receiver can pinpoint your location to within a three yard radius. Constant monitoring of your location can tell the device how fast you are traveling. These two bits of information are then used along with the known distance between you and your target destination to calculate an estimated time of arrival.

Automotive GPS has dramatically changed the way that people vacation and navigate their world. The technology behind these devices is constantly being integrated into all sorts of other gadgets, creating navigation GPS out of many new and interesting items – like the cell phone. The future of GPS navigation is with the cell phone.

One of the most commonly talked about problems while traveling doesn’t have anything to do with the actual trip. You might have a wonderful time on your peaceful and relaxing vacation or business trip only to find that you have a multi-thousand dollar phone bill sitting in your mailbox when you get home. You sit and stare at the unbelievable number on the phone bill, wondering what happened and wondering how on earth you are going to pay it. These roaming costs have sucked away the wonderful memories of many vacations, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

If you use your cell phone too much when you are on a trip overseas, then you might find that the phone bill costs you more than the rest of your trip. The reason for this is simple, and there is a simple solution for your next trip. The phone bills are high because when you travel your home provider, as well as the country’s local provider, charge you for the roaming costs. Two companies will charge you for that one phone call. These roaming costs don’t seem fair and they aren’t. You can do things to keep control of your phone bill while traveling.

One thing that you might want to do is restrict your phone call use. This will certainly cut the chance of your being charged roaming costs, but it isn’t very practical. Any number of reasons could crop up that would make you use your phone. You need to do something smarter, something more practical. The very best thing you can do to lower your phone bill while traveling is to invest in a world phone. This will cut your roaming costs by up to ninety percent. Everyone can use that kind of savings.

You can find a number places online that will help you find the right phone and the international SIM cards that you need for your travels. You need to find a company that offers low fees, no contracts, and great service. With a little research, it’s easier than you might think. When you have your phone, you can be sure that those hideous roaming costs won’t ruin another vacation. You can use your phone and be confident that when you get home you won’t regret the sight of your phone bill while traveling!

Pat Dinunno can help you drastically reduce your current expenses by eliminating roaming fees associated with business and personal travel. Through Roam4Less you will be able to find world phones, travel phones and international SIM Cards that allow you to have quality mobile phone service in over 200 countries without incurring insanely high roaming fees.
